At National Museums Liverpool we’re delighted to be able to offer another free half-day dementia awareness workshop for family carers, taking place on 20 June at the Museum of Liverpool.
House of Memories is National Museums Liverpool’s award-winning dementia awareness training programme, providing both professionals and family carers with practical skills and resources to support people to live well with dementia.
Our family carers workshops are especially important as we believe in caring for the carer as well as the person they support who is living with dementia.
The video-based session is for anyone whose life has been touched by dementia, including family, friends, neighbours and community volunteers who would like to find out more about supporting someone close to them.
A number of practical approaches will be introduced, including the opportunity to try out our My House of Memories app and activities you can do at home or in the Museum.
We’ve had very positive feedback about the workshops from previous attendees – here are just some of the comments:
“This was an eye-opener on how common dementia is and how much help there is for families and carers.”
“A great building block on helping our loved ones with dementia.”
“Powerful, personal video stories focussing on how we can all respond to improve life for people with dementia.”
“It’s good to know you are not alone and there is a lot of support out there.”
In order to help carers access support beyond the House of Memories workshop we will have a number of support organisations present on the day, ready to share advice and information about their services.

As part of our commitment to providing dementia awareness for family carers we have recently launched the House of Memories online shop where you can buy memory resources and activities. Every purchase from the shop supports National Museums Liverpool to deliver our activities and resources for carers.
With the date fast approaching, there are only 40 places available on the 20th June workshop. Book now to avoid disappointment by visiting our website, or you can call 0151 478 4240.
