Museum of Liverpool

Did you know Monday 20 March is the International Day of Happiness? It may seem strange to formalise such a basic human emotion but in 2012, when all 193 member states of the United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted UN resolution 66/281, happiness, for one day a year, became a serious business.

Ideally happiness can be found every day but when life is fast-paced and busy it is often hard to give the pursuit of happiness the time and energy it deserves. This one day a year is an opportunity to unashamedly indulge in the things that make you happiest and hopefully see the value of self-care for the other 364 days of the year.

It has been proven that visiting museums and participating in the arts can alleviate stress, combat isolation and increase levels of satisfaction and happiness. So, just by stepping through our doors on Monday you are taking the first steps to boost your mood. As an added incentive the Education team at Museum of Liverpool have devised a day of activities to help visitors feel positive… and the first hundred people get one of these cute little busy bees each, handmade by our Education demonstrator, Michele Kinsella, as a reminder to ‘bee’ happy!
