River Festival
Half-term is fast approaching and National Museums Liverpool has a fantastic range of activities to keep the little ones busy.
The Merseyside Maritime Museum’s is the big 3-0 this year and we are celebrating in style! We are taking you back to the 80s with DJ Barry Oakie playing the hits and a 1980s themed photo booth for visitors to capture all the fun. Performances, workshops and crafts will also be running over the two days (30 & 31 May). See our website for more details
Upstairs at the International Slavery Museum you can become a Supa Hero in our new exhibition Afro Supa Hero. We have supa crafts to take part in, create your own badge, mini heroes and comics to take home (28, 29, 30 & 31 May).
The River festival is back at our spectacular waterfront (1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 June) head over to the Museum of Liverpool for nautical themed activities. Create your own shadow puppet to take home and create your own fantasy world to play in, listen to pirate themed stories in our Tales from the tent and join in with craft sessions themed on the objects in our museum. Let Son de America take you on a vibrant journey discovering traditional Mexican dance at World Museum (4 June). This traditional Mexican dance performance will be followed by workshops.
Come along to the Walker Art Gallery for our masquerade craft activity (1, 2 & 3 June). Take a walk around the gallery looking at all the paintings, then make your own mask inspired by characters from the paintings and sculptures.
The circus is in Port Sunlight! Get yourself down to the Lady Lever Art Gallery for face painting, balloon modelling and exciting circus skills (30 May).
Ever wondered what lives in the waters of the Albert Dock? Our experts from the Seized! gallery have a special underwater camera used by custom officers for visitors to take a closer look at the creatures that live in the Albert Dock (4 & 5 June).
Children love Sudley House. It is a great place to explore and learn about life in Victorian England. Take them to the childhood rooms where they will see how children spent their time in the days before Minecraft and YouTube! Young fashionistas may be interested in the exhibition Putting on the Glitz, a glamourous display of 1930s fashion. The house is set in large grounds, perfect for kite-flying, picnicking or just letting off steam!

After all this half- term fun you might need to refuel. All our venues serve homemade sandwiches and cakes, they go well with a cup of tea for an afternoon treat.
