As 2015 draws to a close, we’re looking back on some of the most popular stories from the blog this year. We began the year by revealing how the Walker Art Gallery’s Henry VIII portrait was used as inspiration for the costumes in BBC drama series, ‘Wolf Hall’ – and we ended the year with our celebrations at World Museum for the amazing blast off of Tim Peake!

4. On the Waterfront
Another photograph, this time from the Maritime archives, got you very excited as we received lots of comments for our curator, Sarah Starkey. Sarah chose an image of George’s Dock (from about 1874) as her favourite from the On the Waterfront exhibition, which is on at the Merseyside Maritime Museum until 19 June 2016.

In this guest blog, curator and artist Chris Stevens took us behind the scenes of ‘REALITY’ at the Walker, a varied exhibition of striking – and at times gritty – paintings, by some of the most exciting new and established names in British art.
2. Exciting plans for World Museum’s Ancient Egypt galleries
We revealed plans for a massive new project to develop our popular Ancient Egypt galleries at World Museum, which are now closed until autumn 2016. You were keen to read about the new ‘Mummy room’ and find out how the galleries will be restored, as we bring back the grandeur that was lost when the Museum was hit by a bomb during World War II .

1. Black Germans and the Holocaust
Our ‘most read’ blog of 2015 came from Professor Eve Rosenhaft from the University of Liverpool. Professor Rosenhaft gave us an insight into the stories of the families and individuals of African descent, who were in Germany during World War II. A moving and revealing read.
So that is what grabbed your attention in 2015 – we think you’ll agree that’s a pretty varied list of stories from our blog. Here’s to more interesting behind the scenes stories from our museums and galleries in 2016. In the meantime, we’d like to wish you a happy new year!
