The art-lover dad

All of our suggestions are really about spending some time with your dad and sharing something special together. It doesn’t get much more special than the awe-inspiring collection of photographs of space taken around the globe currently on display at World Museum. Wandering around the exhibition of 100 spectacular images, ‘Astronomy Photographer of the Year’ makes for a memorable Father’s Day treat, whether your dad loves all things space related, has a passion for photography or is just a die-hard Star Wars fan.

Up the road at the Walker Art Gallery, ‘Charles Rennie Mackintosh Making the Glasgow Style’, is an exploration of the life and work of architectural genius, designer and artist Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868–1928) alongside the work of his closest friends and contemporaries. There are still places available on Father’s Day but be quick to book your ticket!

And finally if your dad admires the Old Masters, ‘Rembrandt in Print’ at the Lady Lever Art Gallery is a gem of an exhibition. Comprising 50 exquisite prints from the Ashmolean Museum, displayed together for the first time, it marks 350 years since his Rembrandt’s death in 1669.

The fascinating story of John and Yoko celebrates the meeting of two of the world’s most creative artists. From the intimate to iconic, the exhibition combines unmissable objects, artwork, music and film with the couple’s own words to tell the story of their personal and creative relationship, along with their political activism and peace campaigning for the first time.

Scouse and proud dads

For dads on a comedown following the frenzy of the Champions League win, we have a few ideas of how he might continue to feel the Liverpool-love. For dads with young families why not head to one of our ‘New Liverbird and the adventurers’ storytelling sessions at the Merseyside Maritime Museum? Dads will enjoy watching their little ones become immersed in the tale of the Liverpool built yacht ‘New Liverbird’ and her crew of young adventurers.

If your dad is particularly interested in local history he could be one of the first to see ‘Blitzed: Liverpool Lives’ at Museum of Liverpool. It’s an emotional exhibition which explores a devastating period of Liverpool’s history, but also the incredible resilience of its people.

While you’re at Museum of Liverpool take a look at the beloved Ford Anglia on display. If your dad loves 1960s classic design, we’ll be holding a craft session to make your own mini-version of the car, made at the Ford’s factory in Halewood, to take home and keep.
