Ian Bradley, Media Lecturer at Liverpool John Moores University tells us about the Our Day Out project and partnership exhibition at the Museum of Liverpool.

“The Our Day Out project was inspired by a collection of photographs donated to Liverpool John Moores University by the family of Keith Medley a commercial and press photographer who worked in and around Merseyside for most of his career until his retirement in 1987. Many of the photographs feature New Brighton during its heyday as a popular seaside resort.

As part of the project a number of these photographs were used to encourage lively conversation amongst volunteers from two community groups on Merseyside, the Poppy Centre, Clubmoor and Kensington Fields Community Centre.  Together their contributions enabled the project team to capture and preserve some lovely childhood memories. These memories are included in the ‘Our Day Out’ exhibition accompanying 16 of the never previously displayed photographs at the Museum of Liverpool.

Before the exhibition comes to a close on 27 September, the Museum of Liverpool has kindly arranged a series of drop-in events, Sunday 20 and Wednesday 23 September, 3-4 pm. Both events will showcase a short video featuring memories collected during the project. Please come along – we hope you will be inspired to share your own stories and memories of the resort.”
