The sun always shines at National Museums Liverpool!

Six long weeks to fill and entertain the kids is looming. But National Museums Liverpool has a fun-filled summer of events and activities planned for the whole family so there is no excuse to feel bored!

Here are just a few ideas:

• Can you dig it? Come along to the Museum of Liverpool and meet the Museum’s archaeologists, explore the archaeology collection and find out more about the long history of human activity in Merseyside. As part of the Festival of Archaeology there will be exciting events for all ages, from field trips, craft sessions and even a handling session. More info here

• They’re back! See the human and canine members of the UK Border Force sniffer dog team from Manchester Airport in action at the Merseyside Maritime Museum. Come along to learn about their important role in detecting hidden contraband at our ports and airports (3, 10, 17 & 31 August)

• Immerse yourself in Japanese culture over at the Lady Lever Art Gallery. Visit the Gallery’s newest exhibition Edo Pop: Japanese Prints then come along to events inspired by the beautiful prints. There will be Japanese embroidery (26 July), Manga workshops (6 August) and Japanese board games (30 August) for everyone to join in with.

• Over at the Walker Art Gallery join the Education team every week for our summer badge-making club (every Wednesday during school holidays).

• It’s a Wonderful World at World Museum! Join a member of the Education team every weekend in one of our interactive centres for a fabulous family fun activity. Get inspired by the Museum’s collections and explore the wonderful world we live in – from the oceans to the stars, and everything in between.

Sudley House is the perfect place to spend your summer holidays, with wonderful tea rooms and wide open spaces for the kids to run around it great. Our fabulous teddy bear’s picnic is back this year too(19 August)! Bring along your favourite teddy bear and relax with a picnic while we tell you some well loved stories. Afterwards you and your teddy can join in with themed arts and crafts.

• Over at the International Slavery Museum we are marking Slavery Remembrance Day on 23 August. Come along to remember and reflect upon the millions of lives that were stolen through enslavement. Join in the Libation Ceremony to remember ancestors of African and Caribbean heritage. A libation is an ancient spiritual ceremony, which involves an offering to honour our African ancestors. The libation will be followed by an afternoon of activities at the International Slavery Museum, including talks, object handling, performances, badge making and more.
