Half-term is fast approaching and National Museums Liverpool has a fantastic range of activities to keep the little ones busy.
At World Museum step back a few thousand years in the new ancient Egypt gallery. National Museums Liverpool’s Egyptian collection is one of the largest in the UK, so there is no better place to learn about this fascinating civilisation. Discover how the ancient Egyptians decorated their coffins and make a paper model to take home in a special family event (28 & 29 May)
Down at the waterfront, travel back to 1912 to find out more about one of the most famous shipping liners, Titanic, at the Merseyside Maritime Museum. Find out what passengers would have worn while on board (28 May & 2 June) and listen to adventures of Polar the Titanic bear (1 June).
At the International Slavery Museum families can join in with print and craft sessions. Artists from Print Moon print studio are on hand to help sketch objects in the Life in West Africa gallery (1 June) and will help you create and print your own sketchbook to take home.
The Museum of Liverpool is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the release of iconic Beatles’ album Sgt. Peppers’ Lonely Hearts Club Band. Groovy 60s themed events (29 May-3 June) will explore how Liverpool was at the centre of a cultural revolution. Join in with craft sessions, handling events and you can even dress up in some fab fashions from the decade.
The Lady Lever Art Gallery is holding a Dragon Boat Festival (4 June). There will be traditional Chinese dancing, BBC Radio Merseyside Orient Express presenter, Billy Hui, will be telling stories and the Education team will be helping make Dragon Boat crafts for little ones to take home.
Over at the Walker Art Gallery you can create your own stained glass decoration (31 May) to take away with you. Visit the Transparency exhibition to use this as inspiration for your stained glass decoration.
Head out of Liverpool city centre to Sudley House, it’s a great place to explore and for the little ones to run around. This half-term join in with a hands-on craft session (30 May) using Thomas Creswick’s Windmill as inspiration to create your own windmill.
